Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, presented community organisations from across South West Holderness with cheques from the Yorkshire Water Community Fund.
Mr Stuart said: “Congratulations are due to Yorkshire Water on the improvements it has made at the Saltend water treatment plant and for providing this funding to the community.
“We now have a double celebration with the distribution of the money alongside a welcome reduction in the foul odours from Saltend.
“Successful applicants to the fund have worked hard to develop sound cases for grants. Everybody has applied a lot of time and effort to bring a genuine benefit to the community. Special thanks must go to Ward and Parish Councillors and officers from Yorkshire Water who had the difficult task of assessing the grant applications.
“It is good to see that some of this funding has been awarded to the Lifestyle Group to purchase a defibrillation machine for the Hedon area and to St John Ambulance for two specially equipped emergency response bicycles.”
Councillor Mike Bryan, Chairman of the Hull Waste Water Treatment Work Community Fund Committee said, “Thanks must go to Graham Stuart MP for his persistence and determination to bring this constant problem to a happy conclusion for real benefit to our area. It was a real pleasure to see so many smiling faces handing out the cheques, meeting some of the applicants and finding out more about their projects.”
