A priest has published a new children’s book to be sold in the village where he once acted as priest in charge.

The former priest-in-charge at Burton Agnes, The Rev Tony Kidd, 74, has released his first children’s book, ‘Sally’s Angel.’

The story follows a 10-year-old girl, Sally, who encounters an angel in the form of a little boy – Sally shares the secret with two of her friends and the story follows their adventures, highlighting the trust, friendship and intelligent shown in a child’s ability to cope with the extraordinary.

The story was inspired by stories Tony, who has four children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, told one of his grandchildren when they were facing a tough time in their life.

Tony, who is now retired, said: “When one of my grandchildren was facing a tough time I did what grandad’s do - I told stories, I started telling the story of Sally’s Angel and recently they came to me and said, “Grandad, what happened to Sally’s Angel? Did you even finish it?” and when I said that I had, they said, “Well, why don’t you publish it?”

After sending his manuscript to several publishers to no avail Tony eventually found a Christian Publisher willing to help him publish ‘Sally’s Angel.’

“I went through the process of trying to find a publisher but life’s too short and my time is limited so I took the plunge and self-published,” Mr Kidd said.

The book is based at children aged 7 and upwards, however, Tony says that it could be enjoyed by younger children, helped along by their parents, carers and grandparents.

Sally’s Angel costs £4.50 and is available from from the gift shop at Burton Agnes Hall and online at http://www.bizz-b-books.co.uk/
