At about 6.20pm on Wednesday April 2, I had just turned left from Queensgate into Cartwright Lane to head home to Walkington. I had patiently waited in the roadworks until we were free to move on.
Driving along Cartwright Lane out of town I had a clear way ahead, even though there were cars parked almost the full length on the opposite side of the road. I was halfway along these cars when a 4x4 vehicle pulling a small horse box travelling from
the Westwood decided to head down my side of the road.

I was forced to take evasive action, even though I had the right of way. As our vehicles squeezed by, I advised the woman driver of the 4x4 that I had the right of way and that she should have waited near the parked vehicles until it was clear and safe for her to proceed on the other carriageway.

Did she apologise? No. Instead, she spat the words 'Like hell' and drove on.

I hope through this letter someone might recognise this woman who might indirectly be taught a lesson in manners. I suspect she might be a lost cause. This was yet another example of someone unable to properly manager her vehicle, ignoring the Highway Code and showing a total lack of respect for other motorists.

The next time I approach a horse and rider on a narrow country lane, will I slow down? Of course I will. Horses don't deserve to be treated the way this woman treats her fellow man.
