Further to Mr Drew's letter last week in relation to the £90,000 cost of installing cycle lanes in the Manor Road area, the Beverley Guardian carried an article regarding possible staff cuts at Beverley Grammar School owing to insufficient funding.
While I agree with all of the comments made by Mr Drew, £90,000 seems rather excessive for the results achieved and it appears strange that funds can be allocated and used for such a cycle lane project when more important needs, namely the adequate provision of appropriate schoolteachers, are not being met.

Perhaps I am in the minority here, but I am not sure that the council's use of funds for a project which is, at best, unnecessary and confusing and, at worst, an extravagant indulgence properly reflects the priorities of the local residents.

Oliver Johnston.
