Come clean on 'waiting list'

Having read the apologies in the paper by the council about the misprint for the charges for parking in Beverley, I decided to contact them for a yearly pass - £350 buys you a pass for a year entitling you to park in the pay and display areas.
The reason my wife parks in these designated areas is for convenience and for her own safety as well as the car.

Having emailed back and forth to the appropriate department at the East Riding Council I was told that I would be put on a waiting li
st, how long this list is they couldn't tell me! The world's gone mad; one minute they are telling us to apply for a permit, the next they say that there are only a few available. Whats going on?

Driving through Beverley this morning it occurred to me that hardly any of the parking spaces had been taken. Would it not be better to have them all full with everyone paying for a permit to park, rather than everyone being forced to park on the roadside causing congestion and putting lives at risk?

If the council concentrated on the needs of local people and the need for somewhere to park instead of making up waiting lists and painting nasty green lines down the side of the road, Beverley would become a much more pleasant place to work and live.

While I've got my 'moaning' hat on, why is it neccessary to make all our roads look like runways with all these so called cycle lanes that we all seem to think we need nowadays? When I was younger we didn't need any visual guidance for riding our bikes, the biggest hazard was the smell from Hodgsons' tanyard. If it was still there I'm sure that there would be a 100 road signs alerting us all to the potential dangers of inhaling such a putrid smell! Oh dear, when will it all end.
It seems to me that the council needs to stop treating us all like kids.

B Coneyworth
Leven.
