Club workers don't deserve this

I am writing in response to a letter from Tom Parkinson concerning Beverley RUFC; he may be a former rugby union player but he does not know this club very well at all.
I think he not only owes Mr Cunningham and co an apology, but also the many volunteers and people who have got the club to where it is today. Without their vision and unstinting efforts there would be no club there to worry about.

Most of the rug
by clubs around this area have financial problems because there is not much financial aid about. Beverley has a lot of youngsters on the books but unfortunately when they become eligible they go off to university etc. Some do return but others go on to play for other clubs or are unfortunately lost to the game.

We shall surely come down to North 1 next season as we have lost too many close games that we should have won, but one thing that is certain is that we shall bounce back as we have done in the past when we have had setbacks. The spirit within the club is still very good and I am sure the club with its unpaid volunteers will carry on trying to improve the facilities and the playing standards for the kids of the future generations.

I have been involved with Beverley RUFC both on and off the field for nigh on 40 years and feel affronted that this man can insinuate that the club members and officials are doing this for personal gain.
We also care a great deal what our neighbours feel and most of the members would like the club to stay where it is but unfortunately we are in a catch 22 situation, if we don't move we have no money with which to improve the situation unless some financial help is forthcoming.

Many of our players are home grown and I hope that we can carry on producing these fine young players, some of whom have gone on to play for Yorkshire and England.

Jeff Worrall,
Rokeby Close,
Beverley.
