Watch out for bogus callers
POLICE in the East Riding are urging homeowners to be on their guard following two bogus caller incidents in Beverley in the last week.
The first incident occurred on Duesbury Close, Beverley on the morning of Wednesday 1 February.
An 87-year-old woman was alone at her address when a woman knocked on the door claiming to be representing a charity supporting deaf people and was selling items for that charity.
The victim said she did not want anything, but the woman asked if she could use the toilet, which was agreed.
The woman then left the property. However, the following morning, the victim discovered her handbag and purse were missing, believed stolen. The woman had no identification and is being treated as a bogus caller.

The offender was described as white, around 28 years old and 5ft 8in tall with a stocky build. She had shoulder length mousey brown coloured hair, was wearing a big multi-coloured jacket and was carrying a large bag which contained tea towels and other household items.
The second incident occurred at a property on Whitehead Close, Beverley between 3.15pm and 3.35pm on Thursday 2 February.
An 88-year-old man was in bed when he heard someone knock on his front door, so the victim shouted for the caller to come in.
The man entered the property and came into the bedroom and claimed he had come to deliver some raffle winnings for the victim but only had a £20 note and needed some change.
The victim told the man where he kept his money and the man left without any further exchange. The victim then got up and discovered his wallet, and the money inside it, had been stolen.
The offender has been described white, aged in his 30s with a stocky build and a bald head. He was wearing a multi-coloured lumberjack shirt and black trousers.
Following the incidents, the local neighbourhood policing team has delivered crime prevention and offered reassurance. Further crime prevention literature is available from Beverley Police station.
Anyone with information in connection with this incident is asked to call Humberside Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 351 of 2 February 2012 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
