New solicitor in Driffield

Two newly qualified lawyers are realising their ambitions with permanent positions at Williamsons Solicitors.
Rachel Stott, who lives in Beverley, has joined the family department working from the firm’s Driffield office, while Hull-based Lucy Ordidge is in the industrial disease department.
Their careers have blossomed after a period of intense legal study and in-house training for the two 26-year-olds.
Ms Stott’s interest in family law was nurtured in her years at the University of Hull, where she graduated in 2007, and then completed her LPC at the College of Law, York, a year later.
Her enthusiasm for family law was taken further while training at Williamsons Solicitors, first as a paralegal and then in her training contract, which she completed at the end of 2012.
“I have always wanted to work in family law and it has been my main motivation as I want to be able to help and protect those people who are in a vulnerable situation,” said Ms Stott, who is offering a free 30-minute appointment to new private clients visiting the family department in Driffield.
Her case load covers most aspects of family law including divorce, domestic violence, residency and contact issues, in court in Hull, Scarborough and York.
Ms Ordidge joined Williamsons Solicitors at its Hull head office in 2010 for six months as a paralegal, officially qualifying as a solicitor in 2012 while on a training contract with the firm.
She is at the heart of the department’s claimant side work, representing defendants with industrial diseases or conditions, such as hearing loss, in their negotiations with insurers.
Bill Waddington, Williamsons Solicitors, director, said: “Rachel and Lucy have already put in an immense amount of hard work to progress this far, not just in their studies, but while training with us. Both are clearly committed to their profession and should be able to look forward to bright, rewarding careers.”
It’s not all work for the two young women, as they spend much of their leisure time in sporting and outdoor activities, and, as keen runners, use their energy to raise money for charity.
Ms Stott, who lives in Beverley with her fiancée, and two lurchers, plays for the Williamsons netball team. While she regularly competes over 10km, last summer she walked the National 3 Peaks, and completed the Great North Run half-marathon supporting Candlelighters, the Yorkshire children’s cancer charity.
Ms Ordidge, a vet’s daughter from Malton, lives with her husband in North Ferriby, and is a member of the Countryside Alliance. She is currently preparing for May’s Leeds half-marathon, and will be fundraising on behalf of Hull’s Children’s University, where she also hopes to act as a mentor.
