'An all-purpose village hall'
PERHAPS T Wall has misunderstood the purpose of the Memorial Hall. It was originally registered in 1950 as a charity to provide "a community hall for the benefit of the inhabitants of Beverley borough" – a kind of all purpose village hall.
The facilities describe by T Wall are those of a professional concert hall and theatre, I would have thought within the commercial sector, not part of a charitable organisation.
An earlier correspondent suggested such facilities could be incorporated in the proposed development of the clariant site, together with shops, hotel and cinema. This would be an opportunity for a purpose built facility, of the kind required by the concert, theatre and dance promoters, T Wall describes, who would presumably be looking for profit from their presentations.
