IT may be only May, but fundraisers in Beverley are already looking ahead to Christmas.
The Beverley Christmas Lights Group is hoping to follow the success of its appeal last year by launching a new programme of fundraising events.

The group is again hoping to raise £10,000 to improve the infrastructure of the display and festive lig
hting in Dyer Lane and Saturday Market, as well as a new tree for Wednesday Market.

The group is made up of members of the Beverley and District Chamber of Trade, Beverley Town Council, Beverley Lions and Beverley Rugby Club, and is supported by East Riding Council.

Chairman Susan Oliver said: “We try to provide a range of events to appeal to different tastes so that the people of Beverley are able to have fun while helping to raise money and also then enjoy the festive atmosphere of the town and be proud about what has been achieved.”

The following events have already been organised - bingo, beetle and games night at Hodgsons on Thursday May 8, at 7pm; charity stall on Beverley Market Saturday May 17, gardeners’ question time at St Mary’s Parish Rooms Tuesday June 24; summer barbecue and disco at Hodgsons Friday July 11 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from Streamers, Shirleys, Earth Collection, Amanti, G Jack & Son and Christopha’s.

If any organisation or individual would like to get involved in helping to raise money for the Christmas lights, they can contact Susan on 07778 960636.
