A BEVERLEY man has been jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a teenager with learning difficulties.
Steven Jessop (37), of Lowfield Road, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court this week following a three-day trial last month.
He had denied a charge of sexual assault but was unanimously convicted by a jury.
The court heard that Jessop, a former
Beverley Racecourse groundsman, groomed an 18-year-old man, offering him drugs and drink and exchanging texts before meeting him by chance in the Cross Keys pub.
He pinched his bottom, pulled down his trousers, groped him and later kissed him in the street despite the other man - who cannot be named for legal reasons - telling him he wanted nothing to do with him.
Jessop claimed he had downed eight pints and was 'less than sober' when he met the teenager at the bar, bought a drink and began chatting.
He told the jury he did not regret anything that happened. The court heard that he denied offering drugs.
He also denied texting the younger man with a message that he would kill him if he didn't do what he wanted.
At last month's hearing Judge Roger Thorn QC told Jessop he was facing a jail sentence, but wanted to assess Jessop's further risk to the public before sentencing him.
This week he was jailed for two years and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
Jessop was previously jailed for three years in 2005 for a string of drugs offences, including dealing cocaine in Beverley town centre.
He had admitted six counts of possession of cocaine, two counts of possession of ecstasy and one count of intent to supply cocaine.
