£1,000 fine for making mail claims

OPERATING under false names a Beverley man attempted to defraud the Royal Mail of hundreds of pounds.
Jonathan Paul Fisher (27), of Chester Avenue, Beverley, tried to make 29 false compensation claims for a total of £1,343.88 from the Royal Mail.

Many of the attempts were made by him under the names of two women.

He admitted six charges and was fined £1,000 at Beverley Magistrates Court and asked for a further 23 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

He was also ordered to pay £505 compensation to the Royal Mail at a hearing on August 8 and to pay £60 prosecution costs..

Between September 2007 and January 2008 Fisher attempted to claim £1,343.88 from the Royal Mail by falsely claiming to not have received deliveries.

Each claim for compensation was worth between £28.22 and £304.67.
