CURRENT and former members of the Beverley Church Lads' and Church Girls' Brigade enjoyed a special weekend of celebrations to mark the company's 100th anniversary.
The centenary celebrations included a public display by members at the Leisure Centre, attended by civic dignitiaries, and a dance and social evening for old members of the company.

On Sunday a service was held at St Mary’s Church, attended by the Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding, Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister. It was preceded by a parade from the company’s headquarters in George Street, and followed by a march past the Market Cross, where the salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant.

Patricia Redhead, joint leader of the company’s senior corps section, said it was ‘a fantastic weekend’. Between 600 and 700 people attended the Friday display, and around 360 people took part in the reunion the following evening.

Mrs Redhead said that many old members took part in the celebrations, along with the younger members.

“It really was a nice weekend. Everyone I have spoken to has said what a good time they had,” she said.
