AMBITIOUS Yorkshire musicians have just a few weeks left to enter a contest searching for potential stars of a new arts festival.
The Battle Of The Sands take place in Scarborough in which two winners will be selected to play alongside the headliners at next year’s new Coastival.
Planned for February 2009 Coastival is a new event for Scarborough and will be a three-day celeb
ration of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, spoken word and comedy, including a Festival Of Light.
Organisers have this week announced the festival will feature a Valentine’s Day line-up of jazz including performances by Burden Of Paradise with Snake Davis and Helen Watson, the Bourbon Y Tequilla Salsa Orchestra, Claire Teal and Trio.
Coastival, whose patrons are Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley and Sir Alan and Lady Ayckbourn, will run from February 13 to 15.
A large-scale outdoor lantern parade will launch the festival and that will be followed by three days of special events.
The Battle Of The Sands is open to any musicians, groups or individuals, aged 16 and over from the Yorkshire area.
To enter send in a CD of music and an entry form to the organisers of Coastival before Friday October 17.
Then between 12 and 14 acts will be selected to take part in the Battle Of The Sands on November 30.
Coastival organiser Wendy Clews said: “Entries are coming in and we are looking forward to a great event.
“There is still time to enter so we want to hear from any Yorkshire musicians who want to join in this unique event and also want to be in with a chance to be part of the first ever Coastival next February.”
The Battle of the Sands will be judged by the Coastival panel, made up of people from the local music scene.
For an entry form visit Coastival’s website at www.coastival.com or call (01723) 384545.
