Early bird nature lovers are being offered the chance to catch the very first notes of the dawn chorus, at Sewerby Hall and gardens, Bridlington.
BBC Breathing Places and the
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust have scheduled the event for Sunday, May 4 to celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day, established by The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country back in the 1980s.
The event is one of many dawn chorus events taking place at nature reserves around the UK throughout April and May.
The dawn chorus is made up of the sounds of resident UK bird species like the blackbird and songthrush, complemented by summer visitors including the chiff chaff and nightingale.
Tony Martin, Yorkshire wildlife trust officer, will lead a walk around the grounds to enjoy the bird song.
Michael Allen, chairman of the Wildlife Trusts, said: "Dawn Chorus Day is a fantastic celebration of one of the natural wonders of spring. We hope people will be inspired to get outdoors before the sun rises to enjoy the magic of bird song."
The event will begin at 4am. For more information email the YWT on info@ywt.org.uk or call (01904) 659570.
