HEAVY rain failed to put a damper on the annual summer fair at St Mary's Primary School in Beverley.
The rain forced the event to be switched inside the school, but headteacher Lucy Jordan said the fair was a great success.

Organised by the Friends of the school, the fair is one of its main fundraising events of the year. It included stalls, a tombola, refreshments and face painting, as well as games and other activities.

Members of the gardening club manned a stall selling the organic potatoes they had sown themselves, and some of the year 5 children organised their own games with teacher Ian Kellett.

Two other members of staff, Sam Hickey and Leah Carrick, received a soaking despite avoiding the rain as they sat in the stocks and were pelted with wet sponges.

The summer fair raised £1,249 and Mrs Jordan said it was a 'lovely end' to the school year.

The Friends of the school have recently provided an adventure trail for the infants and new netball posts.
