PUPILS at Woodmansey Primary School are enjoying some of their lessons outside, thanks to a new classroom.
The outdoor classroom was officially opened last week by the chairman of East Riding Council, Councillor Bryan Pearson.

It has been partly funded by a grant from the local education authority with the rest provided from the school's budget.

Headteacher Mrs Ann Stoney said the new building is part of an outdoor learning project which has already developed a garden area, and it is also hoped to create an outdoor adventure trail.

She recalled how an Ofsted report two years ago highlighted a need for outdoor provision particularly for the foundation stage, and the new facilities are available for children right across the age range.

The new classroom will enable the children to work outside in all weathers.

"For instance, if they are learning about creatures outside they can do their work under cover in poor weather, and they don't have to carry things back into school," said Mrs Stoney.

The new building is also being used as a venue for a new Sunday school.
