ST JOHN'S RC Primary School in Beverley is celebrating a glowing report from the recent Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors judged it to be a good school with outstanding features. Of the elements assessed, 16 were outstanding and 11 were good.
Inspectors found that the school has a calm but enthusiastic atmosphere, where the uniqueness of each child is highly valued and everyone is encouraged to do their best. Dedicated and caring staff ensure pupils thrive in their learning, and behaviour in lessons and around the school is exemplary.
The personal development and well-being of pupils was judged to be outstanding. Pupils are a vibrant part of the local and parish communities who have lots of opportunities to be part of decision-making in the school.
Pupils settle to lessons quickly and through an innovative curriculum and good teaching are encouraged to be self-motivated, independent learners.
The school 'knows the circumstances of each pupil and provides carefully targeted and highly effective support to meet their particular needs'.
The inspectors reported that 'teachers make learning fun' and that parents had confirmed their children love going to school.
The leadership and management of the school was judged to be outstanding with headteacher Theresa Rogerson providing a clear vision and effective strategies towards raising standards. The inspectors felt that the strong leadership and team approach clearly focused on giving the pupils the best possible opportunities for life.
The school, in Wilberforce Crescent, Beverley, has 148 pupils. Pat Du Boulay, chair of governors, said: "The outstanding leadership and management of the head had helped the school come a long way over the past few years."
Headteacher Theresa Rogerson, commented: "We are all delighted with this report.
