A BEVERLEY primary school is celebrating the success of its efforts to go green.
St John of Beverley RC Primary School has just been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag award.

Over the past 18 months St John's has formed an Eco Club of pupils, governors and staff, which has worked tirelessly to make it a more environmentally-friendly place.

After carrying out a whole school audit, the Eco Club decided to make reducing electricity and water use a priority in the school. The club also redeveloped a wildlife area and planted willow sculptures.

Ten-year-old pupil Loralie Castle said: "We are really proud of our school and what we have achieved. It shows that if we all play our part we can make a real difference.

"The next step is for us to raise the money to buy photovoltaic cells for the school roof so that we can generate our own electricity."
