ST Nicholas Primary School in Beverley is celebrating receiving the Quality Mark award in recognition of its continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.
It was the first time the school has gained the award and headteacher Mrs Liz Pollard said it was a great achievement, celebrating the school's focus on improving basic skills.

"It fitted in with our school improvement plan and is an acknowledgement that we are doing the right things," she said.

A plaque marking the national award was presented at assembly at which some year 6 pupils gave a power-point presentation outlining to visitors some of the school's activities and achievements.
